A new book examined how subtle forms of racial prejudice continued to play a major part in everyday life. Implicit biases based around race were not just found in small sections of society: they also existed in the most 'liberal', 'educated', and 'fair-minded' people. These 'hidden' attitudes and prejudices could predict behaviours in a number of important social situations.

A report by a committee of MPs said that football authorities at all levels of the game, along with supporters' and players' groups, needed to take responsibility for pro-actively tackling all forms of discrimination, including racism: but it was the Football Association that needed to take the lead and set a strong example for others to follow.

An article examined outcomes for children of ethnically mixed partnerships, and how these compared with those of other children. Substantial variation was found according to the outcome considered but also according to ethnic group. Overall, children in mixed-parentage families did not unequivocally experience the equality of outcomes with majority-group children that the 'assimilation hypothesis' implied.

A new book examined the institutional patterns and politics of racial discrimination in Europe. It highlighted an 'incompatibility' between declarations of universal values (such as human rights and democracy) and institutionalized actions that excluded and discriminated against Europeans of immigrant background and against ethnic minorities.

A report provided an analysis of the coverage of black young men and boys in the news and current affairs media, in order to establish whether there was evidence of negative stereotyping. The 'dominant discourse' surrounding black young men and boys linked them with violent crime, and particularly murders involving knives and/or gangs. Although no clear or explicit stereotype of black young men or boys was constructed across news reports, it was 'reasonable to assume' that the negative portrayal of black boys and young black men might well affect the wider readership and viewing public's perceptions of these groups.

An annual report examined the ways in which racism and racial discrimination had affected the lives of racial and ethnic minorities Europe in 2010-11. The economic crisis continued to have a negative impact on migrants and ethnic minorities – creating fears among the general public that incited racist behaviour, and leading to financial cuts that weakened anti-racist groups. The United Kingdom country report said that racism was still a 'significant barrier' in the lives of too many people from minority-ethnic backgrounds.

A report examined four different options for integration and equality of opportunity for all citizens in Europe, focusing on the Muslim population. Some ethnic minorities might wish to assimilate; some to have the equal rights of integrated citizens; some to maintain the cultural differences of their group identities; and some to be free to choose cosmopolitan mixed identities. All of these approaches had value, and if citizens were to have not just rights but a sense of belonging to society governments should not seek to impose one particular option.
